Polarium today announced that Pontus Winberg is the company’s new Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 October 2026. He succeeds Leif Ottosson, who, as planned, is retiring after successfully leading an extensive transformation and strategic renewal of Polarium. Leif will not have any formal operational role within the company. However, he will continue to contribute his expertise as an advisor.
Winberg has been with Polarium since the beginning of the year as Executive Vice President and Head of the Residential and C&I business segments. Before joining Polarium, he served as CEO of Bright Energy and GodEl, and held senior commercial leadership roles at Cake, Arkion and Telenor Sweden.
“On behalf of the board, I want to thank Leif for his significant contribution over the last two years. Pontus Winberg will continue in the same strategic direction and drive the development of our telecom and distributed energy systems,” says Harald Mix, Chairman of Polarium.
“When I took on this assignment, the mandate was clear and finite: sharpen our strategic focus, improve operations and get the company on a stable footing. As I am now retiring, I’m proud of the organization and we have worked hard to achieve these goals. We have come a long way, but as always there are still things to resolve. I’m therefore happy that we have an internal succession and Pontus will continue moving Polarium on the path we’ve set,” says Leif Ottosson, outgoing CEO of Polarium.
“Having worked closely with the team since the start of the year, I’ve seen first-hand the strength of Polarium – built on Swedish-developed technology that accelerates electrification and strengthens resilience. I’m excited to lead the company into its next phase, where distributed battery energy storage systems (BESS) will play an even greater role,” says Pontus Winberg, incoming CEO of Polarium.
